Topical Treatments

topical treatment

All wounds should be cleansed at every dressing change, before or after debridement, or in the event of contamination.  This cleansing can be normal saline solution, or disinfectant wound treatment solutions, like Dakins solution or acetic acid. There also may be topical agents that can be left on the wound surface to assist in antimicrobial, wound tissue hydration or enzymatic debridement.  These may include collagenases, hydrogels, manuka honey and more.
