Pulsed Lavage with Suction (PLWS)

Pulsed lavage with suction

Pulsed lavage with suction (PLWS) is a treatment in which a pulsed water "gun" is used to provide hydropressure cleaning and debridement while using vacuum suction for removal of the irrigant solution, exudate (wound drainage), microorganisms and debris.  The pressure for the irrigant helps to cleanse the wound, while the pressure from the suction helps to stimulate healing and tissue production.  PLWS can be used on a variety of wounds, including venous ulcers, neuropathic ulcers, pressure injuries, post-surgical wounds, infected wounds, partial-take skin grafts, and fasciotomies.  It is also appropriate for infected, necrotic and granulating wounds. Treatment time is 2-3 minutes, and should be done during every visit.  This treatment can by done during dressing changes, or used with the other specialized treatments offered at LVWS.
