  • Do you offer hyperbaric oxygen therapy?
    We do not offer HBOT at this time.
  • What are wounds?
    Wounds result from a number of different causes. A physical therapist can assist with any type of wound. It is important to note that anytime you have a break in the skin, there is a potential for infection. You should seek treatment for any wound sooner rather than later.
  • Should I leave my wound open to air?
    No. Wound healing best occurs when the wound bed is kept moist and the healing cells can travel across the wound to close it. The purpose of dressings prescribed for you is to maintain just the right amount of moisture, not too much and not too little. It will also protect the wound from contamination in the environment.
  • How can a physical therapist help?
    Physical therapists are skilled in managing all types of wounds. Based on the results of your physical therapist's evaluation, including a review of your medical history and an examination of the wound, they will design a treatment program to meet your needs and goals. Your treatment may include: Patient education. Strengthening and mobility exercises. Wound care. Recommending improvements to the seat, bed, or footwear. Caregiver training. Your physical therapist also may work with other health care providers to ensure the safest and most effective healing process possible
  • Can I be treated if I don't have insurance or my insurance won't cover home health wound care?
    At LVWS, we accept most insurances. Furthermore, we also accept private pay patients. This is often less expensive than home health agencies, and your treatment will be more comprehensive than home nursing is able to offer. Contact us today to see how we can help with private pay!
  • Does a physical therapist need to complete continuing education?
    Yes, every physical therapist has to complete 20 hours of continuing education and are required to renew their license every two years to ensure it is in good standing. Certified wound specialists also have to complete continuing education every year, and are required to renew their certification every 10 years, by passing additional examinations.
  • What kind of physical therapist do I need?
    All physical therapists are prepared through education and experience to treat patients who have wounds. You may want to consider: A physical therapist who is experienced in treating people with wound problems. Some physical therapists have a practice with a wound-care focus. A physical therapist who is a board-certified clinical specialist, who completed a residency in wound management physical therapy, or who holds a certified wound specialist credential. This physical therapist has advanced knowledge, experience, and skills that may apply to your condition.
