Compression

compression

Gradient sequential compression is to most effective treatment for wounds associated with leg swelling.  This swelling may be due to a condition known as venous insufficiency, where the body is unable to move fluid back up the legs through the veins.  This causes increased swelling in the legs and can cause the extra fluid to push its way out of the skin, causing wounds.  These wounds are often painful and can be found on the inner and posterior calf.  The only way these wounds have a chance to heal is with compression therapy.  These patients are often treated 3-5 days per week.  Total treatment time is 45 minutes to one hour, and is followed by a compressive wrap on the legs.
